Technical description
Elagolix sodium is a medication belonging to the class of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonists. It is an orally active, non-peptide inhibitor used primarily to treat pain associated with endometriosis by reducing estrogen levels. It binds to GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, inhibiting the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), resulting in a dose-dependent decrease in estrogen levels.
